Interested in teaching with Math Magic? Please contact us and we will let you know when we begin accepting applications for spring quarter.
How It Works
Volunteers work with kids in small groups of 2 to 4 using a textbook and workbooks that are provided. Instructors have freedom to come up with a basic lesson plan before each session.
Prior teaching experience is helpful but not required! Volunteers receive training before and during the program, and experienced instructors act as team leaders to manage the classroom and provide help to other instructors. |
Why Teach?
Ever felt thankful you had the educational opportunities that got you to Stanford? Engage in direct service that makes a visible difference in the lives of deserving kids! The kids aren’t the only ones who’ll be learning and having fun, either. Get off campus, stay connected to the world outside the “bubble,” and meet other Stanford students interested in community service and social justice.

Time Commitment
There will be about 7 weekly sessions per quarter. Instructors must commit to one of these days for the entire quarter (travel time included):

Transportation
Carpools are provided and leave from the Haas Center by 4:30pm. Late cars are available to leave a few minutes after the first car if necessary.

What is Singapore Math?
We use the Singapore Math textbooks and workbooks, which have been widely recognized as an effective curriculum for use in classrooms and home schooling. These books were the only ones approved for use in Singapore from 1982-2001, during which Singapore began to rank at the top on international tests like the TIMSS. The books themselves are colorful, engaging, and logically ordered (sample). They are based on extensive research to build strong foundations, starting from working with concrete objects to pictorial representations to abstract math, providing support for all students to achieve fluency.
